Winchester High Wall Model 1885 38 EX / Express Preservation-Restored
Description:
This appears to be a professionally preserved or tastefully restored High-Wall 1885 Straight-Stock Sporter Model in 38 Express Caliber (38 EX.) that is sometimes designated 38-90 – a powerful long-range cartridge in its day. The Receiver looks something like a “thin-side” – but with an even flatter profile that may have been altered before case-color refinishing (not certain of that). Patent dates are preserved, but we see no serial number on the receiver (No Serial Number visible on Photos 6 & 7). The 30-Inch Full Octagon Barrel is Winchester Profile # 3 with the number marking just ahead of the forend on the bottom flat in this example. It certainly appears original (although we cannot tell for certain) with a bore that looks remarkably shiny with sharp rifling. The Straight Buttstock has a Steel, Diamond-Border Checkered Niedner Buttplate; the Schnabel Forend has the usual Ebony Tip Insert. The rifle is equipped with a Single Trigger and Two Rear Sights: Fine V-Notch, Elevation-Adjustable, Barrel-Mounted and an extraordinary original appearing Folding Tang Sight that is Elevation Adjustable with Preserved, Numbered (0-25-50-1/ 25-50-75-2/ 25-50) Index Lines. The Dual-Function Front Sight has a Fine Bead Plus a Fold-Up Hooded Target Bead. The 38 EXP mark is on the top flat just ahead of the receiver, the the Address is on two lines, also on the top flat: “ – MANUFACTURED BY THE – / -- WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. –“ The Wood is Straight-Grained, Darkened with Age, and in very good (likely, refinished) condition. Neither Stock nor Forend are checkered. All mechanical functions are tight and intact. Condition is best judged by the photos for this tastefully preserved working rifle that should serve its owners well for another 100+ years. Barrel markings are Sharp and Distinct as is the Patent Date. Please ask any questions or request additional information before purchase as this item will be troublesome and costly to return owing to CA re-registration and other regulations. Any refunds will be minus our actual shipping cost and FFL fees (greater than $150) after buyer pays return shipping. The listed price Includes Insured Ground Shipping from a CA FFL Dealer to yours. Payment is by Money Order, Bank (Certified) Check or Personal Check (held 2-3 days). We are the Estate Executor and Trustee, not a dealer, and cannot handle credit card or electronic payments. This item is subject to prior sale.
