Description: Winchester model 1895 lever action rifle. 30-40 US cal. 28" barrel. This is a very early third year production rifle manufactured in 1897. It is a standard configuration with full round barrel, blued finish, walnut stock. Case colored hammer and buttplate. The rifle remains in beautiful all original condition. The barrel has approximately 98% factory blue finish. Sides and top of frame have approximately 80% of the original high polish Factory blue. The majority of blue is on the sides of the magazine, The Lever retains approximately 30% blue. The balance is a pleasing smooth patina. Walnut stocks are excellent, proud to metal with no cracks or major chips, just a couple of minor impressions. Hammer retains the majority of it's case colors. Buttplate is a grey patina. Rear sight slot is empty. Rifle sports the desirable Slidin Lyman model 21 receiver sight and a standard front sporting sight. Schnable forend has the ebony insert. Strong clean bore. Perfect action. This is an extremely fine condition example of a second model 1895. The first 5,000 guns were termed "Flatsides", so this is one of the early second models. It is getting extremely difficult to find high condition antique range second model 1895 rifles, and this one is a gem, Serial # 7217.
