Description:
22 inch octagon barrel chambered in 50-95 (Express) caliber with a very good bore. Sights include a nickel-silver blade front and a sporting rear with checkered edges. About 30% original barrel blue with the balance a plum/blue. Good markings. Special order half magazine and shotgun butt are not mentioned on the factory letter. The 22 inch barrel length is not mentioned either but it does have the shorter than standard forearm that would be correct for this length barrel. Casehardened receiver has faded slightly but retains strong case colors in the protected areas with some discoloration and light pitting. Hammer and lever have good amounts of color as well while the forend cap has traces of color. Forearm and pistol grip stock are fancy grain walnut with "Style H" checkering and a high polish "piano" finish. Stock and forearm are both in fine condition overall with sharp checkering and most of the high polish piano finish is intact. The stock and forearm have some minor handling marks. The pistol grip has an ebony inlay. Shotgun buttplate has a dark patina with some light pitting. Nice functioning action. There were only 61 of the 22 inch octagon barrels made in this caliber. This scarce and desirable Winchester Model 1876 deluxe .50 Express rifle was made in 1883 and comes with a factory letter.
