CITIZENS GUARD OF HAWAII WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 MUSKET WITH SABER BAYONET
Description:
32 inch round barrel chambered in .45-75 caliber with a good bore that has visible shine and rifling with scattered light roughness throughout. Blade front and musket folding ladder rear sight graduated to 800 yards. Barrel is a mottled brown patina. Nose cap holds a cleaning rod on the left side and a saber bayonet lug on the right side. Receiver is a plum/brown patina with good traces of original blue in the protected areas. Wood has been slightly cleaned but looks very good. Buttstock has the correct sling swivel. No front sling swivel. Good mechanical condition. Includes a correct 20 inch blade saber bayonet with fish scale pattern brass grip. These bayonets were supplied to Winchester by Ames. This example was shipped November 22, 1882 as part of order 35449 with 298 muskets and 81 carbines destined for Hawaii. Comes complete with a Research Form. The Citizens' Guard of Hawaii was a militia used against royalists forces who opposed the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii. These Winchesters were used to arm the loyalist Citizens' Guard who led a brief conflict that occurred from January 6 to January 9, 1895, Three years later Hawaii was annexed to the United States. A neat piece of history.
