PRE-WORLD WAR II SCARCE MODEL 75 “SPORTER” .22 LONG RIFLE BOLT ACTION RIFLE, #12XXX, MADE 1940.
Description: PRE-WORLD WAR II SCARCE MODEL 75 “SPORTER” .22 LONG RIFLE BOLT ACTION RIFLE, #12XXX, MADE 1940. Almost all the Model 75 rifles were made in the heavy stocked target mode with very few being made as sporters. The Model 75 was a very high quality rifle produced to be less expensive than the much more costly Model 52 target and sporting rifles. This example has the correct checkered forend and checkered pistol grip with Winchester embossed hard rubber grip cap. It also has the correct and original receiver mounted Redfield target aperture sight as well as a globe front sight mounted on a ramp that will accept sight inserts. This rifle came out of here in Montana and was obviously used for its intended purpose, but not abused. The barrel retains most of the blue, but does have some scattered minor freckling mainly behind the rear dovetail (which is empty). It retains the original steel butt plate. The trigger guard is mainly gray/brown and shows some pitting from old rust that has been cleaned off. There is also blue wear on the bolt handle. The bore is bright and excellent and the action is tight. The floor plate is marked “SPORTER” and all that is needed is an easy-to-find magazine (it seems all these Winchester bolt action .22s took the same 5-shot magazines). It will still fire single shot without a magazine. The stock shows normal handling/hunting wear and is basically sound and attractive. It also comes with correct swivels and a leather sling. All Model 75s are scarce and if you wanted a quality Pre-War Winchester .22LR repeating bolt action to use that was a big step above those normally encountered, this would be a good one…without spending a fortune!
