Winchester Model 70 "George Hoenig Custom" .270 Winchester. This custom rifle was built for a left hand shooter. The rifle was custom built by George Hoenig and his long-time gunsmith associate, Owen Bartlett. In fact, the rifle was Owen Barlett's personal rifle. Built on a Pre-64 model 70 barreled action with serial number 143971, dating it to 1950. The beautiful rifle has an original, pre-64, 24" Winchester model 70 barrel, polished and blued to a blue/black glossy finish (not as glossy as Weatherby Mark Vs), The receiver, appears to have been finished in a matte finish in keeping with the original factory finish. The floor-plate, trigger-guard and screws were also finished in a blue/black glossy finish. The high grade walnut stock is stunning and finished in a hand-rubbed oil finish, and the hand-cut fine-line checkering is exquisite. The stock has a shadow-line, cheek-piece on the right-side, set up for a left hand shooter (as mentioned above). The stock also has a checkered metal grip cap and a plastic checkered butt-plate. Although the bolt-body was polished, there is no jewelling of anykind to the action, bolt or magazine follower. The only addition is a custom checkered release lever.
