This Winchester M-70 * Standard Grade, No. 286XXX (1953) is an very good example of a totally all original M-70, unmolested
w/checkering & w/no cracks. Normal bluing and wood condition. It has both sets of factory scope
holes in front and to the rear of the chamber and the original set screws.. The bluing is abt 95-98% on the receiver to barrel
muzzle w/the original issue front sight cover and the factory issued rear adjustable flip sight.The trigger & floor plate have the
normal handling wear w/silvering of the trigger guard and floorplate. Both normal for a firearm of this vintage.
The stock has some very light handling marks w/one light rub line (3/4") on the L- side just above the trigger. There is some
very light crazing at the butt plate. The stock is abt 80 -85% overal & all original. The buttplate is the "Horned Steel" (Deluxe Model),
The action is smooth and normal.The bore is shiney w/a nice twist.
* Since I began collecting M-70's I was l was led to believe that that earlier (M-70's) were mfg in both the Standard Grade & Super Grade w/wrrap around Checkering on the pistol Grip and a monogramed "W" cap on bottom. A checkered forearm w/a black ebony cap & recessed sling brackets.I see today some very plain uncheckered stocks. Are these restocked M-70's or what ?
