1930 Vintage Winchester Model 55 chambered in .30 WCF (.30-30win) w/ 24 Inch Barrel ** Rare Solid Frame **
Description:
This is an all original Model 55 manufactured by Winchester in 1930. The Model 55 was introduced in 1924 and was made to fill the gap between the Model 94 Sporting rifle and the Model 94 Carbine. The Model 55 was offered in three calibers .25-35 WCF, .30 WCF (.30-30win), and .32 Winchester Special. The Model 55 was also offered in both a solid frame and a takedown frame. Roughly 85% of the rifles produced featured a takedown frame making the solid frame rifles quite rare. This particular Model 55 is chambered in .30 WCF (.30-30win) and features a solid frame, 24" rapid taper round barrel, walnut stock and forend, 3 round tubular magazine, and serrated steel butt plate. The 24" barrel still retains much of its original blued finish with the exception of various handling/wear marks and light spots of once-removed surface rust. The receiver on the other hand retains almost none of its original finish. Even with the extensive finish loss, the receiver is in excellent condition with very light handling marks and surface scratches. All the factory markings along the barrel and receiver are clean, crisp, and more than visible. The walnut stock and forend are in great condition for their age and show the occasional handling mark. The stock has two very fine hairline cracks near the butt plate. The two cracks do not effect the integrity of the stock in anyway. The bore is bright with strong rifling. The action of this rifle is tight, with positive lock up, and very little play or wobble in the lever. With roughly 20,500 of these rifles made, this rare solid-frame Model 55 would be an excellent addition to any Winchester collection. PRICE: 1500.00 We are Antique & Modern Firearms in Lexington, KY, dealer of fine firearms since 1974.
