Winchester Model
1895
Antique Flat side
3 Digit serial number
Description:
This is a very rare, and exceptionally nice antique Winchester Model 1895. It is a first model, " Flat Side", with an octagonal barrel, chambered in the 40-72 - the most rare 1895 caliber. It is a very early rifle, serial no. 788. No more than 60 1895's were actually built in 1895, so this rifle was built during the first 12 months of manufacture, in July of 1896. The great majority of early Winchester rifles saw hard frontier use, Model 1895's were no exception and most are well used, abused and well worn. This rifle remains in higher condition, with much blueing remaing on both the receiver and barrel. The gun does have marks and honest wear from use, and you will see one spot of cleaned corrosion on the left side of the muzzle. The 26" tapered barrel has a fantastic bore! it is bright, shiny, excellent sharp, square lands and grooves - I would rate this bore at a 9.5 on a 10 scale. I't would be hard to find another 40-72 1895 with a bore this nice. The wood shows some honest use, some finish loss and scattered light marks, dings and scratches - overall very good wood. Please study the pics, they describe the condition best. This is an exceptional, far above average 1895 flat side - rarely do you see this configuration and caliber, and even more rare a specimen in this condition offered for sale. **** This is an antique, and can be directly shipped to * Most states *, I am a FFL and must comply with all local shipping laws. Please add $ 150 for shipping in a hard case with insurance. Thank you.
