1927 Vintage Winchester Model 1892 Rifle in .32-20 WCF Caliber ** Handsome & Honest Winchester '92 **
Description: This is a nice all-original Winchester Model 1892 Rifle in .32-20 WCF caliber. This Winchester 92 is serial number 986474, making it's date of manufacture 1927. The Winchester Model 1892 is one of the all-time classic American lever-actions, a design that was popular almost immediately after being introduced with everyone from cowboys to farmers. Chambered in the popular revolver calibers of the time, the Model 1892 allowed a person to have both a revolver for short-range work and self defense, and a rifle or carbine for jobs that required more accuracy or longer range that both shared the same ammunition. For the first 30 plus years of the '92's existence this was a major selling point as ammunition was sometimes very hard to come by, and having to find and carry two different calibers was a big deal especially when traveling by horseback or on foot. The Model 1892 was offered in multiple configurations as well as with many special-order options during it's production run, but the most popular variations were the standard rifle and the Saddle Ring Carbine. This lever-action repeating '92 Rifle features a gloss-blued factory finish, a 24" inch octagon barrel, a Lyman 1A tang peep sight, factory iron sights consisting of a dovetailed front blade and a Buckhorn rear sight (missing elevator), a tubular magazine mounted under the barrel, and a factory-varnished smooth American Walnut stock set with a blued steel semi-crescent buttplate. This Winchester appears to be 100% original, never modified or altered since leaving the factory. It certainly has been used over the nearly 100 years since it was shipped from the Winchester factory, but it has obviously been cared for and has not been abused. The original factory blue finish still looks nice on the barrel, magazine tube, and bolt, but has turned to brown-blue and flaked away in areas from the receiver and many of the other small parts. This is a common occurrence in these old Winchesters due to the different nickel content and heat treating processes used on the various parts. The original blue on these harder parts would just not stand up to wear and tear as well as the other parts. The factory markings on this Winchester are all clear and fully legible, and all of the original screws are intact in the gun with clean slots. The bore in this rifle is in excellent shape overall, free from any major pitting or damage. The Bore is bright and showing sharp rifling from the chamber to the crown of the muzzle. The original factory stock set on this rifle is in good condition as well, showing no cracks or damage and just light handling marks but is still very solid. The forearm and buttstock are really a perfect match to each other both in color and degree of wear, and all of the original stock hardware is still in place and in good shape. The action on this 1892 is smooth, slick and it locks up tight. There is no droop or play in the lever, and the bolt locks into battery with the barrel perfectly with no wiggle or slop. All of the controls on this rifle are in perfect working order including the trigger, and we have no doubt that this Winchester '92 will still function just as reliably today as it did 95 years ago. If you have been looking for a nice honest and original Winchester 1892 rifle for your collection that looks like it has "been there and done that" rather than spending it's life in storage, this 1927-production gun might be the perfect choice for you. It's not too often that we run across Winchester 1892 rifles that are good-looking, all-original, and fully-functional but yet priced affordably under $1800 dollars. As an added bonus, .32-20 WCF ammunition is still being made by several big manufacturers so this fine old Winchester could be shot and enjoyed at the range or farm without breaking the bank!
