Winchester Model 1890 1st Model Solid Frame in .22 Short Mfg. in 1891 (2nd Yr. Production!) SOLD
Description:
The 1st Model Winchester Model 1890 is distinguished by having a solid frame (non-takedown). There were only about 15,500 1st Models made out of a total production of over 849,000 Model 1890s. This represents only 18% of Winchester's most popular .22 rifle model production, and they are rarely encountered in any condition. This example is serial number 8825 and was made in the second year of production for this model, the year 1891. It is in typical "well used" condition. The metal parts outside of the receiver have a blue/brown patina, and the receiver which was originally case-colored has had some cold blue applied to it somewhere along the line. The barrel address is still clear and legible as well as the "22 Short" caliber marking, however there is substantial marring on the barrel in front of the receiver. The bore is shootable but dark and worn. This is common as the .22 short cartridges were loaded with black powder and corrosive primer compounds for quite some time. The original Walnut stock set is still intact and is free from cracks or repairs. Everything on this Winchester works properly and the actions cycles nicely, and locks up tight. This rare Winchester 1890 has a nice overall appearance to it and it would certainly fill a hole in a collection.
