Winchester Model 1886 Rifle in .40-82 Built in 1893
Description:
Serial #77110, .40-82 WCF, 26" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is an 1893-made rifle that has retained 50-60% of the original blue along the barrel, bolt, and magazine tube, with gray fading at the muzzle, and further gray fading along the balance. The receiver and lever have a mottled, pewter gray patina with about 75-80% of the original color case-hardening remaining. Further case coloring is present on the lever, with some bright original colors on protected areas. The walnut forend and buttstock have numerous handling marks, bruises, and blemishes scattered about the old oil finish, and the right side of the wrist has a previous owner's initials stamped into the wood: "HH". The crescent steel buttplate has a dull gray patina overall, with some small spots of surface oxidation at the toe and heel. The action is smooth and fully functional, and the rifle is accompanied by a Cody Data Sheet that lists a shipping date of April 5, 1893. This is a really nice Winchester Model 1886 rifle, in a desirable caliber, and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique
