Antique Winchester Model 1886 Rifle 40-82
Description: Serial #87911, .40-82, 26" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has traces of freckling within the grooves. This is an 1894-made rifle that has retained 50-60% of the original blue along the barrel, bolt, and magazine tube, with gray fading at the muzzle, and further gray fading along the barrel. The receiver and lever have a mixed gray patin with about 75-80% muted original color case-hardening remaining. Further case coloring is present on the lever, with some bright original colors on protected areas. The walnut forend and buttstock have numerous small handling marks and minor blemishes scattered about the old oil finish, and the right side of the wrist has a previous owner’s initials stamped into the wood: "HH". The crescent steel buttplate has a dull gray patina overall, with some plum-brown freckling at the toe and heel. The action is smooth and fully functional and the rifle is accompanied by a Cody Data Sheet that lists a shipping date of April 21, 1894. This is a really nice Winchester Model 1886 rifle and would make a great addition to any collection.
