Winchester High Wall Model 1885; 32-40; Vintage Custom; First Year of Manufacture
Description:
First year of Manufacture SN 17; Used, Custom Stocked Winchester High-Wall 1885 Rifle in 32-40 Caliber; 28 Inch Medium-Heavy Barrel appears to be #3 Profile, but stamp not visible under forearm. It has a Dish-Recessed Crown and two 3/8” Dovetail bases with the rear one removed temporarily to photograph the caliber marking. One dovetail cut is present on the top side as well as an unusual sling swivel base with modern (Torx head) screws. It is possible that the barrel was polished and reblued a long time ago (we are not certain) because the WINCHESTER markings look shallow to our eyes. Bore has sharp and well-preserved rifling to the naked eye, without major defects or pitting. The Receiver looks to have been polished & blued long ago, as the patent date is not visible on the bottom tang and the serial number stamp also appears shallow. The top tang bears a rear sight base-only; we do not have the rest of it. The unusual Trigger-Guard/Lever has a finger extension at the rear, and no “S” -shape extension against the bottom tang. It's upside down in the photo - but "1978" is stamped on the bottom of the right breech-block leg. The Buttstock is a Custom Pistol Grip style with a plastic Grip Cap; Raised Comb & Cheekpiece; and a Pachmayr Decelerator Butt Pad over a Black Spacer. The Schnabel Forend with Ebony Inlay Tip is original. It has some blemishes, wear, and has 2 inches of its left side upper edge (ahed of the receiver) missing. Because this is a refinished rifle with a custom stock, lever, and other features, the condition is best judged by the photos. Please ask any questions or request additional information before purchase as this item will be costly to return owing to CA re-registration and other regulations. Any refunds will be minus our actual shipping cost and FFL fees after buyer pays return shipping. The listed price Includes Insured Ground Shipping from a CA FFL Dealer to yours. Payment is by Money Order, Bank (Certified) Check or Personal Check (held 2-3 days). We are the Estate Executor and Trustee, not a dealer, and cannot handle credit card or electronic payments. This item is subject to prior sale.
