Winchester 1885 High Wall 32-40 Custom (Antique 1886 receiver)
Description:
Winchester 1885 High Wall custom target rifle in 32-40, 4 digit serial number dates it to 1886. I purchased this rifle from a gentleman who set it up for 100 yard bench matches. Rifle has a 25" heavy barrel (1 1/8" at muzzle, I believe it would be considered a #4 barrel) with a perfect bore. Unfortunately I can not find the paper with all the specifics on the barrel, namely the maker and twist rate. The rifle is set-up with a vintage Unertl BV-20 scope in Posa mounts and rings, it has clear glass and is 20x power, includes the original manual. Just off the receiver is a pivoting level to help with accuracy and the adjustable trigger has a extremely nice let off. The receiver and action are solid (in the picture of the open action it looks like rust around the breach, that is actually Rig lube). Please see pictures for overall condition, it's not perfect but it really is nicely done. Now for the interesting stuff, the rifle comes with everything he worked out for this rifle, including his best loads and samples of the groupings (some measuring only .310" at 100 yards), he has written down the best loads, overall length to reach the rifling, etc. He casts his own bullets and the 2 Lyman molds he liked the best are included, as are some of his bullets. Since the two bullets are seated at different depths he made up his own sizing gauges for trimming the brass to get the correct overall length, those and about 50pcs of brass for each length are included. A 3 pcs RCBS die set, about 1,500 gas checks, some other reloading pieces, along with 52 already loaded rounds also come with it. This is just an awesome, very accurate rifle, I'm just not a bench / scope shooter. I bought it thinking I would take it to some matches, but my old iron sighted High Wall in 38-55 is more fun to me. Shipping is $50 and will include a hard case and insurance for the rifle, plus the separate shipping of the accessories. Please contact me with any questions or additional pictures.
