SOLD...Antique 1873 44-40 Winchester. Here is a standard 1873 Winchester with the round barrel in the very sought after 44-40 caliber. It has the standard 24” round barrel and has a excellent bright and shiny bore. Does not even show any frosting. Just a few tiny specks. Just a fantastic bright original bore for a 1873. Cody worksheet declares all original with S/N 405124 applied in Dec. 1891, in warehouse May 1892, shipped in August 1892.. The ole 73 basically is a no finish gun with a medium gray brown patina throughout. Some pitting on the left side plate but the rest of the gun a pretty smooth with some blotches and staining. Excellent markings. Original dust cover that retracts perfectly with the lever throw as intended. Mechanics are excellent.. It feeds, fires and ejects as it is suppose to.. Mechanics are tight with no slop anywhere. The lever snaps shut with authority and both hammer notches are perfect and positive. No bulged fired cases and no backed out primers. This has been test fired by me as all of my Winchesters and it shoots great with my light cowboy action hand loads.. It has the original front and rear sights although the rear sight has pitting on it so it may be from a different gun but it is an original and proper sight and elevator for this 73. All the screw heads are very clean and nothing is burred up from tinkering. The wood is real nice.. The forearm fits tight. It still fits proud and full to the end cap and receiver all around. Has the honest bumps and dings but no cracks or chips and never sanded or cleaned on at all. The butt stock fits tight. Still fits slightly proud or even with the upper and lower tangs. Shows honest bumps and dings but no cracks or splits and never sanded on or messed with.. Just real nice and honest wood on this one. This ole 73 ain't nothing special to look at but has an excellent bright bore and real nice wood , shoots great and Cody confirmed original. I think the price is fair with the market values.. Would be priced cheaper of course if it had an average pitted bore and rough wood.. You can find those every where you look. $60 insured shipping depending on your location. USPS registered mail shipping has gone through the roof lately. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.. Thank you for looking.
