1873 Winchester Sporting Rifle, 32-20 cal, 24" Octagon Barrel, mfg date 1880
Description: This is a nice 1873 Wincheste, serial number 411685B manufactured in 1880. It was was discovered in a barn in Southern Utah. It is in nice working condition with a tight action. The bore is worn with some pitting and rifling present. It is pretty much in as found condition and could still use a good cleaning. Front sight looks to be original with horn or ivory bead. The rear sight is a replacement vintage Marbles buckhorn sight and the dust cover is missing. The stock is in good condition. The buttstock has a chip repair in the right top corner of the upper tang - well done and solid, approximately 1/4" x 1/2". The magazine tube has been cut back approximately 1/4" on the end; endcap and spring are present and it functions well. The tube also has a small dent halfway down on the bottom right. Metal finish is a mix of grey metal and smooth dark brown/plum patina. Please review all of the photos. The Model 1873 was one of the most successful Winchester rifles of its day, with Winchester marketing it as "The Gun That Won the West". Still an icon in the modern-day, it was manufactured between 1873 and 1923. It was originally chambered for the .44-40 cartridge, which was the first centrefire cartridge and which became immensely popular. The 1873 was later produced in .38-40 and .32-20, all of which later became popular handgun cartridges of the day, allowing users to carry just one type of ammunition. Thanks for visiting my listing.
