Description:
Way above average all original 1866 4th model rifle with 24" barrel. This beautiful 145 year old rifle presents itself very well. The walnut stock and forearm are in great condition with no cracks and minimal scratches and shrinkage. The steel parts have lost their original blue and turned to a very nice and even plum patina. The brass receiver and elevator have a nice yellow color with only a few scratches. Mechanically, The rifle is excellent with a tight action and no slop. The bore is very good showing strong lands and grooves and minimal corrosion. An interesting note about this rifle is that it was born a carbine and changed to a rifle in the factory before shipment by removing the saddle ring and plugging the two mounting holes. This was a common practice by Winchester as they did not waste parts. I included a picture and paragraph from the George Madis book detailing this. This actually makes this particular rifle even more rare! I have owned this rifle for 15 years and the value has gone up making this gun a very good investment as well as a great addition to a collection.
Shipping and insurance is included to the lower 48 states only
