Winchester M1894, .32-40 x 26” Rnd. Barrel, c.1898, ANTIQUE
Description:
This M-1894 Winchester rifle was manufactured in 1898, 127 years ago. It is chambered in the desirable .32-40 caliber and has a 26-inch round barrel and a crescent butt plate.
The bore is very good with just some minor roughness but no pitting, overall it remains very shootable. The action is smooth, fully functional with no problems.
The wood is in excellent condition with no cracks or splits. It has some minor handling marks consistent with a well-cared for 127-year-old rifle.
The crescent butt plate appears to have been buffed bright at some point in time. The receiver shows perhaps 50% blue with the wear occurring in the natural handling areas. The bottom and top portions of the receiver show the most wear, the photos show it well. The round barrel and magazine have turned a pleasing brown. The rifle has only 2 corrosion points on the barrel. There is a dime size pitted area on the right side of the barrel just ahead of the nose cap. There is another area half the size on the opposite side on the barrel. These 2 areas are the only spots on the rifle. It’s interesting that they are on opposite sides of the barrel. Perhaps damp felt rifle rack pads or a leather sling? I guess we’ll never know but they are of minor concern in the overall condition of this rifle.
This is a nice Antique M1894 for your Winchester collection.
