A recreation of “The original Winchester 1866
Description: A recreation of “The original Winchester 1866 .44 Rimfire Lever action rifle.” This is a replica of that rifle chambered in .44-40 WCF. Winchester’s Model 1866 was the “Rifle that began the Wining the West.”and with the conversion of the .44-40 chambering to the 1866 offered a more a powerful cartridge propelled by 40 grains of black powder and, that really insured the success of the 1866 as wells as that of the 1873. The fact that Colt quickly responded by offering its frontier six-shooter chambered in .44/40. A cowboy could have both a lever action rifle and his “Peacemaker” and only need one cartridge belt. Buffalo Bill Cody carried an 1873 and a pair of Colts chambered in .44-40 in 1876 when he worked as an Army scout. Chappo son of Apache Warchief Geronimo packed an 1873 as did most Texas Rangers along with every Old West Cowboy worth his salt. Uberti has recreated this 1866 with a brass receiver and nose cap, case hardened lever and hammer, octagon barrel. It's in very good condition. At some time all Italian markings were removed. SOLD |
