Cased Prewar Westley Richards Mannlicher-Schoenauer Model 1910 Rifle in .375 Rimless Nitro Express ( 9.5x57 M-S)
Description: I am selling another classic British safari rifle out of my collection. This is very fine Mannlicher-Schoenaur Model 1910 rifle made by Westley Richards in 1912 chambered in .375 Rimless Nitro Express aka 9.5x57mm Mannlicher-Schoener. This rifle features a 23” barrel with ramp front sight with large bead and single standing leaf rear sight. The stock features a sleek profile with buffalo horn forend tip and carved twist off horn grip cap revealing a storage compartment in grip. It also has original checkered steel buttplate with trapdoor to a storage area in the stock. The condition is very good with most of the bluing remaining and the stock has much of the original oil with handling marks and some flattened checkering typical of hunting use and the age of this rifle. The bore is bright and shiny with strong rifling throughout. This rifle still has its original oak and canvas maker’s case complete with original travel stickers from the Peninsular & Oriental Steamer Company from when this rifle was taken on at least one hunting expedition, likely to Africa. P&O operated large steamer passenger ships taking British citizens to the far-flung areas of the colonies back in the day when the sun never set of the British Empire. Interesting to note that the ship this sailed on, the Comorin operated from 1924 until 1941 when it caught fire and sank off the coast of Sierra Leone. The case is in fair but serviceable condition with a missing strap and leather handle in need of repair. Overall this rifle has a very nice slender profile that one would expect from a prewar British safari rifle. It has a 14-1/4” LOP to the end of steel buttplate and a nice balanced weight of 6.75 lbs. It just feels good in the hand and comes to the shoulder very naturally as one would expect from a rifle of this quality sold by Westley Richards. The cost of actual shipping to the buyer's FFL will need to be added to sales price. Please make sure your FFL will accept shipments from an individual in order to avoid outgoing FFL-FFL fees. I can accept cashier’s checks for payment. Please email me with any questions or if you wish to see additional pictures. Thanks!
