The M6 IC-DI is one of LWRC International’s most popular rifle models. It is directly descended from the rifles developed by LWRC to meet the requirements of the U.S. Army’s Individual Carbine program. The IC-A5 is designed specifically to combine features of the IC Enhanced model and the IC-SPR into one package. The IC-A5 is built with a low profile 2 position adjustable gas block allowing the shooter to compensate for running a suppressor. The other notable feature is the special cutback version of the 12” SPR style rail system. This allows the shooter to use the low profile gas block and at the same time keep the long modular rails available on the sides and bottom of the hand guard. As with any IC model, the IC-A5 is equipped with LWRC’s patented self-regulating short-stroke gas piston system. The primary benefit of having flutes in the barrel is a resulting reduction in weight of the barrel. According to LWRC, the fluted barrel here is 20 percent lighter than an unfluted one. Another theoretical benefit of the flutes is that they provide more surface compared to a standard round barrel. As a barrel heats up during firing, the heat radiates from the inside to the outside of the flutes, which, because of the greater surface area, slightly increases the cooling rate of the barrel compared to a standard barrel.
