1998 Vintage Springfield M6 Scout .22 LR / .410 Ga. Survival Gun
** All-Original CZ-made Example **
Description: Introduced in the mid 1980's by Springfield Armory as a commercial copy of the U.S. Military's M6 Survival Weapon issued to air crew, the M6 Scout quickly became popular with backpackers and outdoorsman due to it's small size, ease of use, and durability. During the subsequent production runs there have been a few engineering changes made to the original military design meant to improve it's function and make it safer all while maintaining it's tool-like appearance. This particular example was made for Springfield Armory by the CZ firm in Czechoslovakia. It features a break-open design with over and under 18" inch barrels chambered in .22LR and .410 Gauge. The action is opened by means of a hinged top latch and the action is cocked manually with a hammer. The hammer itself contains a safety position and is selectable from top to bottom barrel. The trigger is actually a "trigger bar" designed to operated with heavy gloves or mittens, just like the original military design. A stamped metal triggerguard was added by Springfield to help prevent accidental discharges that the original U.S. Military version did not have. The sights consist of a front blade sight and a flip rear aperature that can be a notched blade or peep. The top of the stamped metal buttstock has a hinged lid that open with a press of a button on the left side of the stock to reveal storage for 15 rounds of .22 Long Rifle ammo and space for 4 - 2.5 or 3" inch .410 shotshells. The front sight/barrel band has a provision for a QR sling swivel and the keel of the buttstock is cut for a looped sling attachment. As you can see from the pictures, this M6 Scout is in great condition overall both inside and out. It has been used, but used very lightly and cared for. The original Parkerized finish is handsome and in very good condition overall, with the only places showing a little wear located on either side of the butt just above the buttplate, the black painted finish on the hinged top of the butt just ahead of the rubberized cheekpad, and the underside of the chamber area where the natural balance point is when carried. There are no bad spots or eyesores that stick out on this Scout, it has a very even and attractive patina to it. Both the shotgun and rifle bores are bright and clean with no pitting, erosion, or imperfections visible. All of the controls on this M6 Scout are in perfect working order and the action locks up perfectly tight with no wiggle or slop. There is no doubt that this Springfield Armory M6 Scout will function 100% just like the day it left the factory 22 years ago. This neat little survival weapon would be a great backpacking/on-the-farm weapon, or perfectly at home as a representative example of the U.S. Military's 1950's original.
