**1917 MFG** Steyr Model 95/30 Stutzen Carbine 8x56R
Description: The Steyr-Mannlicher Model 1895 Stutzen originally chambered for the Austro-Hungarian 8x50 cartridge, was rechambered for the updated 8x56R cartridge in the 1930s and re-designated the Model 95/30 as indicated on the barrel by a large "S". The M95/30 Stutzen (or Extra-Corps-Gewehr) was designed for use by special troops: Engineer, Signal, Sturmtruppen, etc and not for Cavalry; since it is fitted with a bayonet stud, stacking hook and has sling swivels fitted to the underside as well as the side. The "Stutzen" is frequently confused with the M95 Cavalry Carbine, which only has sling swivels on the side and no provenance for a bayonet or stacking hook. These were manufactured in large quantities by Österreichische Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft (Steyr) and by Fegyver és Gépgyár Rt (F.G.GY.), Budapest from 1897-1918. This example was manufactured by Steyr in 1917 indicated by "Wn [eagle] 17" on the barrel. Originally the Austrian M95s were only numbered barrel to receiver, but during the 1930s update the bolts were also matched to the existing rifles and electro penciled. This rifle is all matching receiver, barrel and bolt as well as sporting number matching barrel bands with an arsenal matched stock. The bore is bright with strong, visible rifling and the rifle functions perfectly. This is an excellent rifle for a WW1 or WW2 collection and would be a nice piece for taking to the range and shooting this military classic.
