Very Rare!! Springfield 1870 Cadet Rifle Fine Condition Only 310 made!
Description: 1870 Springfield Cadet one of only 310 made! Description: Details Springfield 1869 model Cadet 50-70 Trapdoor Rifle in excellent condition made in 1870 with 1870 dated breach block. This U.S. Model 1869 50-70 Government centerfire Cadet rifle was manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1870 along with 309 other rifles. The Model 1869 Cadet rifle is a shortened version of the Model 1868 rifle. The cadet length barrel is three inches shorter than the rifle (29.6"), and the butt plate width is narrower. Careful examination of the stock thickness around the barrel shows it to be considerably thinner than that of the rifle. Most of the 3,400 cadet rifles produced were made between April and September 1871. However, only 310 were produced in the first quarter of 1870. The rifles have 1868 receivers and breech blocks. They feature only one cartouche because they were produced using new stocks. The barrel, trigger guard, butt plate, and bands are unpolished. The breechblock is marked 1870 over an eagle and retains 90% of the original oil case color. The lock marked U.S./SPRINGFIELD with an eagle with a shield clutching arrows and an olive branch. The stock is very good with some wear, a few handling, a chip missing on the left near the muzzle, a circle cartouche on the left side across from the lock, and a circle P proof mark behind the trigger guard. The stock is strong and sound . The action functions perfectly. Serial Number:3323 (if you plan to shoot this rifle, .50-70 brass is hard to come by, but it is easy to make the brass from 50-90 sharps brass by trimming 3/4 inches from the length and sizing. 50-90 brass is readily available for 1.69 ea from Track of the Wolf or Starline) SOLD Antique: Yes Rifle Caliber: .50-70 Government Manufacturer: Springfield Model: 1869 Cadet Serial Number: 3323 Barrel Length: 29 5/8th inches Condition: Fine Metal Condition: Fine Wood Condition: Fine Bore Condition: Fine Sights: Original ladder Manufacture Date: 1870 |
