Description: Springfield 1873 Trapdoor chambered in .45-70 Government. Known as "Trapdoor Springfield" rifles, this was the first standard-issue breech-loading rifle adopted by the United States Army. The Trapdoor remained the longarm of the U.S. Armed Forces until replaced by the bolt-action repeating rifle known as the Krag-Jorgensen in 1892. This rifle is in very good condition with a bright bore and strong rifling. This rifle was 1 of the 500 "Trapdoor Springfields" featured in the Dixie Collection. The check sheet for this rifle was for sales from the Dixie Gun Works from 1966 to 1976.
