VERY SCARCE SPRINGFIELD TRAPDOOR MODEL 1869 RIFLE CONVERTED TO A LINE THROWING GUN
Description:
5300 serial range. I believe this is the only time I have seen a trapdoor converted to a line throwing gun. They have used just about anything for line throwing guns. Wood shows a fair amount of use and has an age crack coming back from the lock plate. It is pinned and is sound and solid. The metal is a brown patina with traces of case color on the lock and plum/brown on the barrel. Mechanically fine. Comes complete with a six inch projectile that goes over the barrel that you tie your line through. These are usually lost. I don't think I have ever had one before. It matches the condition of the gun being a plum/brown color. It also has a copper spool of line. The plate on it says " Remove This Cover And Shoot End Of Line In Center". Comes complete with a device for locking it down. A very interesting scarce old item.
