Antique U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1884 TRAPDOOR Rifle .45-70 Govt.
Description: Here we present a very nice U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle chambered in .45-70 Govt. The cartouche on the stock indicates production in 1891. This fine example of U.S. military history is in Very Good Condition for its age, showing the expected light dings and mild abrasions from the rifle's many years of service. The bore of the 32-1/2" barrel is shiny and in good condition with nice rifling and some scattered spots of very light pitting. The finish on the metal shows wear consistent with its age, with spots of dark gray patina throughout, and all of the original proofs and markings remain strong and clear. The rifle is mechanically excellent and everything functions very smoothly. I test fired the rifle myself with low-pressure ammunition and it was an absolute blast to shoot. This would make a great addition to any firearm collection.
