Description:
THIS IS AN 1875 SPRINGFIELD OFFICER'S MODEL TRAPDOOR RIFLE TYPE 1. ONLY 477 TOTAL MADE BETWEEN 1875-1885. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE ONE OF THE EARLIEST TYPE 1 MODELS MADE IN 1875. THERE WERE ABOUT 125 TYPE 1'S MADE IN 1875-1876. REASONS BEING, NO ENGRAVING ON TRIGGER PLATE OR TRIGGER GUARD. MY OTHER TYPE 1 HAS ONLY A LITTLE ENGRAVING ON THE TRIGGER PLATE ONLY, NOT THE GUARD. AS THEY WENT ON THE PLATE AND GUARD HAD ENGRAVING. NO COMPLETE CIRCUMFERENCE ENGRAVING LINES AROUND BARREL BAND AS LATER ONES, ONLY ENGRAVED ON TOP. ONE LINE, INSTEAD OF TWO SCRIBE LINES ON BARREL FERREL AS LATER TYPE 1'S. OVERALL JUST A TINY BIT LESS ENGRAVING AS LATER TYPE 1'S. ALSO THE ERSKINE ALLEN CARTOUCHE, HAD TO HAVE BEEN VERY EARLY AS I'VE ONLY SEEN TWO IN MY CAREER OF 57 YEARS OF COLLECTING. MOST ALL TYPE 1'S ARE VOID OF THEM. THEY JUST HAVE THE FIRING PROOF P ON UNDERSIDE OF STOCK REAR OF CHECKERING AS THIS ONE DOES. CORRECT SHARPS REAR TANG SIGHT USED ON ONLY EARLY TYPE 1'S. CORRECT FOLDING BEECH FRONT SIGHT. CORRECT AND ORIGINAL CLEANING ROD. DOUBLE SET TRIGGER. ORIGINAL 1873 REAR RIFLE SIGHT ON BARREL WITH SLOTLESS SCREWS. ORIGINAL OIL FINISH ON WALNUT STOCK. IT HAS PROBABLY 95% ORIGINAL BLUE ON BARREL WITH SOME THINNING SPOTS. CASECOLORS ARE FADED OUT ON LOCK, HAMMER, BREECH, TRIGGER GUARD AND PLATE, AND BUTTPLATE. SOME VIVID COLORS CAN BE SEEN IN PROTECTED SPOTS. INSIDE OF BREECH AREA HAS MOST ALL VIVID COLORS. THIS TRULY IS ONE OF THE NICEST TYPE 1'S I'VE EVER SEEN. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GUNS TO COME OUT OF SPRINGFIELD ARMORY. PLEASE CALL 973-214-3407 WITH QUESTIONS. THANKYOU
