Serial #267714, .45-70, 32 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome trapdoor rifle, the so-called "Model 1879" variant that has retained 97-98% of the original blue on the barrel, receiver, and lock, with some mild fading present at the muzzle, and one some of the edges and projections. The 1873-dated breech block has vivid original color case-hardening throughout. The walnut stock is in fine condition with some scattered small handling marks and bruises in the original military oil finish, and a still crisp "SWP/1884" cartouche on the left side of the wrist. Additionally, the rifle has a rectangular "DETROIT / BOARD / OF / COMMERCE" stamp on the left side of the buttstock. This is an excellent Trapdoor variation that would make a splendid addition to any collection. Antique
