c1875 CUSTER RANGE SPRINGFIELD Model 1873 TRAPDOOR CAVALRY Carbine Antique
SADDLE RING CARBINE In the Original 45-70 GOVT
Description: c1875 CUSTER RANGE SPRINGFIELD Model 1873 TRAPDOOR CAVALRY Carbine Antique SADDLE RING CARBINE In the Original 45-70 GOVT Here we present an antique U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Saddle Ring Carbine in the Custer Range of numbers, made in 1875 by the Springfield Armory. This example would have been manufactured just months prior to the Battle of the Little Big Horn (aka Battle of the Greasy Grass; June 1876) in Montana where Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer and his men suffered their crushing defeat at the hands of the Lakota and Cheyenne with Custer and much of the 7th Cavalry destroyed, including Custer’s brothers, Boston & Thomas, his brother-in-law, and his nephew. This Model 1873 carbine’s serial number lands in the pre-1876 serial range. The Model 1873 was the first trapdoor variant to be made in the .45-70 GOVT cartridge as opposed to the .50-70 GOVT cartridge of previous rifles by Springfield Armory. Early features this carbine includes are the flush barrel-to-receiver fit, the lack of proofs on the left side of the barrel (this would begin shortly after this carbine was made), the oil-quenched case hardened breech block, and the lack of the cleaning rod trap in the butt plate. The overall condition is very good. Strong, tight action. Bright, rifled bore. The stock is solid throughout and was lightly refinished. “1873” dated lock and trapdoor. A very nice example of the Model 1873 Cavalry Carbine in the sought for Custer Range! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 22 inches. Caliber: .45-70 GOVT Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $3465 #210639 SOLD Antique: Yes |
