The 45 Government (45-70) centerfire caliber Model 1884 carbine was used toward the end of the Indian Wars and during the Spanish American War. The 22"" round barrel on this gun has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The barrel has a plum-brown patina. The breechblock is marked US over MODEL over 1884. Case colors are visible on the underside. The lock has the eagle with U,S. over SPRINGFIELD. The lock, hammer, and trigger guard have approx. 95% blue. The butt plate has approx. 75% blue with wear on the high spots. It is equipped with the correct Model 1884 carbine sight, 1890 sight protector band, and the sling bar and ring. The stock is good with a small chip at the rear sling bar attachment point, no other cracks or chips, no visible cartouches, and medium issue wear. The action functions correctly. This carbine is a good example of a gun that was undoubtedly used during the Indian Wars or Spanish American War.
