Shorter, Lighter, Handier Version of the Garand
Description: 1943 TANKER SPRINGFIELD ARMORY M1 GARAND .30-06 Rifle 1950 SA Barrel C&R
Shorter, Lighter, Handier Version of the Garand
Here we present a C&R Springfield U.S. M1 Garand “Tanker” Rifle. The receiver was manufactured in March of 1943 at Springfield Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts. The barrel shows a date of 1950 and is also by Springfield Armory. This rifle is an original .30-06 caliber semi-automatic rifle that was the standard U.S. service rifle during World War II and the Korean War and also saw service during the Vietnam War. Most were issued to U.S. forces, though some were also provided as foreign aid to American allies. To say that it was and is highly regarded would be an understatement. In the words of General Patton, “In my opinion, the M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised.”
In the late-war and post-war period experiments were done to make these shorter, lighter, handier weapons for infantry. One of these was the T26. While those experiments never resulted in official adoption by the military, they were very popular with US civilians.
The overall condition is fine. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. Bore gauges at a tight .300. The walnut stock is solid.
This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.
Barrel is 18 inches.
