Unaltered US Model 1892 Krag Rifle by Springfield
Description: Serial #16681, .30-40 Krag, 29" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is an 1894-dated, 2nd Type rifle that has 85-90% blue remaining on the barrel with some gray fading at the muzzle and a few more small areas of fading on the balance. The receiver has traces of original blue on protected areas, with the balance faded to a mottled pewter gray and plum-brown patina. Additional mottling is present on the magazine door. The bolt is mostly gray with dark freckling mixing in (most noticeably on the handle) and the extractor has turned to a blue-brown patina. The safety tab fits fairly loosely and sometimes impedes the bolt opening when the action is uncocked. A correct Model 1892 rear sight is fitted. The walnut stock has a legible "JSA / 1895" cartouche, with numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered about the reapplied military oil finish. This is one of very few Model 1892 Krags to escape conversion to Model 1896 specs, and is in very good plus condition overall. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes |
