U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1898, Antique, Great Condition Carbine converted to Long Stock
Description: High Condition 1898 Springfield Armory Carbine in .30 U.S. (30-40 Krag). According to my research, this one was made in 1898, making it 127 years old and qualifying as an antique. It is in amazing condition, considering its age. I was told that it probably had a short stock with a saddle ring when it was new but the armory converted most of them to the long stock at some point. The rifle retains a lot of original finish, even showing some faint case colors. The action is very smooth and locks up properly. The bore is bright and the rifling appears sharp. Since the 30-40 Krag was the first smokeless round adopted by the U.S. Military, the bore was not subjected to the problems of Black Powder. The stock is in very good shape with no cracks or problems. It shows evidence of being marred by someone taking of the front barrel band (see pictures), and has a few bumps and dents that I have tried to show in the pictures. I love the sights. They are very well made and precise in the markings. This is a very nice rifle. Thanks for looking!
