Description: CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE ARSENAL ALTERED & NAME INSCRIBED SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1842 PERCUSSION .69 CAL. MUSKETOON. Original Mexican War 1846 dated musket now 46” o/a with 30” smoothbore barrel shortened during the Civil War for Cavalry use by the Richmond Armory or CSA contract gunsmith. All original including the ramrod and in untouched attic condition. Right side of the butt stock carved with the name “T. CHAPEL” in crude letters. Many 1842 Muskets were in stock in Southern arsenals before the War and numerous altered for cavalry use as the newer issue rifle-musket replaced these obsolete arms for Infantry use but could still be used by Cavalry. Eight soldiers from different Southern states listed with the name with all spelled “T. Chapell”. 100% original. SOLD Antique: Yes |
