For offer is a M1903 Springfield rifle that was aboard the USS California during the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941. With help of Archival Research Group, it was determined that this rifle was 1 of 352 springfield M1903s that were salvaged off the USS California after the Pearl Harbor attack. This particular rifle was discovered in a drill rifle state (plugged barrel and welded magazine cutoff switch), and was professionally restored back to its former glory. Parts were painstakingly sourced for correctness, all the way down to a date correct barrel. This rifle wore its original 1918 dated barrel when found in its drill rifle state, so an extremely nice 1918 dated barrel was found to replace it. Stock cartouches include what we believe is a boxed JSA 1899(extremely faint), boxed S.A. S.P.G., RA-P, as well as the circled P under the wrist of the stock. Included in the sale will be scans of the Bureau of Ordnance Survey documents, tying this rifle to the USS California(serial numbers blurred to protect the monetary interest of Archival Research Group). Also included is a letter from Archival Research Group authenticating the history of this rifle as well as giving a brief history of where the rifle was re-issued after its salvage from the USS California.
