Swiss Model ZFK 31/42 Sniper Rifle by Waffenfabrik Bern No Import
Description: Serial #450855, 7.5mm Swiss, 25 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome rifle that has all-matching numbers, including the magazine, and retains 95-97% of the original blue finish, with some silvering along the edges, and some minor flaking of the blue on the barrel bands. The bolt has its original armory bright finish remaining, with a few small spots of freckling on the body, as well as on the aluminum handle. The rifle is equipped with the integral 1.8x scope with flip-up objective lens, and internal elevation adjustment out to 1000 meters (controlled by the tangent scale and slider on the top of the scope) on the left side of the receiver. The scope has the typical Swiss reticle with two horizontal bars flanking a central right angle peak, and has slightly cloudy, but still functional optics. The stock has numerous small handling marks in the original varnish, with some heavier wear along the sides and toe of the buttstock. A crisp Swiss cross and shield stamp is present on the right side of the buttstock. The rifle is also outfitted with a Swiss issue leather sling, and an original metal muzzle-cover is also included. These rifles were adopted following tests with the experimental ZFK 1942 Sniper Rifle and were designed to minimize the vertical profile of the shooter when using the scope. These rifles were not very satisfactory since they were very difficult to shoot accurately. The 31/42 was therefore superseded by the very similar ZFK 31/43 a year later. This is a fine-excellent example of a very rare Swiss sniper rifle, brought into the country prior to 1968, and would make a splendid addition to any collection. FFL or C&R SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
