We are honored to offer this ultrarare Russian (TULA Arsenal) Sniper Rig, acquired directly from the owner who took it off a Cuban sniper in 1983 in Grenada. The provenance is as follows: Kalisenikov SVD Dragonov was captured from a Cuban sniper on the first day of operation “Urgent Fury” in October 1983. Being a Russian sniper rifle makes perfect sense because Russia was suppling armament to Cuba at that time. The sniper was wounded and surrendered the rifle. The Cuban sniper was a veteran of Angola. Golf Company 2/8 assaulted up a cliff and surprised the Grenada and Cuban forces which surrounded the Governor’s mansion. Golf company was to relieve Seal Team 6 who were protecting the Governor on their very first mission and escort the Governor and his family to safety. After the operation the marines were allowed to keep foreign small arms as souvenirs, this was one of them. The package consists of the Russian SVD Dragonov rifle, the night vision scope assigned to the rifle, bayonet, two magazines, tool kit, and 400 rounds of unopened (spam can) ammo! The rifle is in excellent condition exhibiting a few battle scars from its limited use but nothing major. The bore is absolutely stunning Also included are aerial photographs of the Governors mansion and the positions of seal team 6 and Golf Companies 1st platoon assault path which locates the exact position of the sniper that was taken prisoner. There is also a copy of the actual map used in the assault. We have never had better provenance to support a historically significant find.
