SCARCE Antique AMERICAN CIVIL WAR Era SHARPS & HANKINS M1862 NAVY Carbine
One of 6,686 Navy Purchased During the Civil War
Description: SCARCE Antique AMERICAN CIVIL WAR Era SHARPS & HANKINS M1862 NAVY Carbine One of 6,686 Navy Purchased During the Civil War Here we present an antique Sharps & Hankins Model 1862 Navy Carbine made during the American Civil War in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Made from 1862-65, the total production of the Navy Carbine was only 6,686, making this quite a scarce representative of a Civil War long arm. This example is fitted with a reproduction barrel cover and the barrel has been relined with a smooth shotgun bore, converted to percussion from the original rimfire. These carbines are believed to have seen extensive service aboard various vessels during the American Civil War. Being that they were intended for use on the water, the Navy carbine was factory fitted with a very tight leather cover to prevent corrosion on the barrel, most of which have long disintegrated. The shape of the carbine is distinctly Sharps (much like their pepperboxes) and operates a bit differently than other carbines of the era. The trigger guard doubles as a lever, which is opened by pressing a small tab inside the smaller loop of the lever. Opening the lever slides the barrel away from the recoil shield for loading and unloading. Great elevating rear sight and brass butt-plate. The leather jacket has long since been removed and replaced with a reproduction cover. The overall condition is fair. Patinated metal surfaces. The barrel has been rewrapped in leather. The action of the hammer and trigger is strong although the firing pin assembly. The bore is void of any rifling and smooth. The stock shows use. There is a short, stable split along the grain at the front of the wrist on the left side and just left of the comb off the top tang. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 24 inches. Caliber: .54 smoothbore Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1700 #244312 SOLD Antique: Yes |
