RARE Antique SHARPS New Model 1868 .50-70 GOVT Military RIFLE Army Contract 1 of 636 Modified by Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Company
Description: RARE Antique SHARPS New Model 1868 .50-70 GOVT Military RIFLE Army Contract 1 of 636 Modified by Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Company Here we present an antique Sharps New Model 1868 Rifle in .50-70. This rifle was originally made in the percussion format circa 1863-65, then converted to US .50-70 Govt circa 1868 or 1869 for use by the Army. Many were converted from percussion to centerfire but only 636 were converted to this specific variant. This rifle features a 30” round barrel with a nearly full-length forestock secured by 3 bands. The “DFC” within a ribbon final inspection mark used on the metallic cartridge conversions is stamped in the center of the left side of the stock. The right side of the stock is equipped with a patchbox. Sling swivels are mounted underneath. This was a powerful, reliable single shot rifle with a great reputation from before and during the American Civil War that only improved with the metallic cartridge. The overall condition is fine. Original blue finish with muted case colors. Excellent, strong action. Bright bore with sharp rifling. The walnut stock is very nice, with clear cartouches: 3 on the wrist, 1 on the left side of the butt stock, and initials on the top of the comb. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 30 inches. Caliber: .50-70 U.S. GOVT Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $5235 #217697 SOLD Antique: Yes |
