Schmidt-Rubin Model 1911 K11 7.5x55mm Swiss rifle 6+1
Description: This is a very nice Model of 1911 long rifle. The Swiss introduced this model to replace their earlier rifle models. At the same time, many Model 1896 rifles were converted to Model 1896/11 standard, the upgrade being patterned after the 1911. According to research done on Swisswaffen, this rifle was produced in the second year of production (1913). In 1912, serial numbers 355,001-361,000 were produced. In 1913, serial numbers 349,001-355,000 and 361001-369,000 were produced, causing some confusion among collectors. Anyways, one of the changes from the previous models included shortening the magazine capacity from 12 to 6 rounds, mainly to keep the magazine from protruding so far below the stock. A magazine hold-open (via the magazine follower) was introduced, as well as a pistol-grip stock and an improved rear sight. The Schmidt-Rubin rifles are well known for their straight-pull bolt design. This has the advantage of requiring fewer movements to operate compared to say, a Remington 700. Whereas the latter requires four movements (pull up-pull back-push forward-push downward), the former requires only two movements (pull back-push forward). In addition, the ammo is not hard to find. Not only is brass plentiful, but a few companies still manufacture ammunition such as PPU. For those who handload, the K11 (1911) and K31 (1931) rifles can use the same .308-diameter bullets used in the .30-06 and .308 Winchester rounds. The 7.5x55 Swiss is rated at 55,000 psi which is very close to the .308 and performances are similar. The 7.5 Swiss is certainly suited for the same distances as the .308 for target shooting, and for the same range of game for hunting purposes. Swiss rifles are known for their accuracy in general, and this one should be no less so. The long 30.7-inch barrel is spotless and should produce very tight groups provided the shooter does their part. The receiver exhibits minor rust spots on the receiver and some minor bluing loss on the right side. The trigger guard exhibits some loss as well. Otherwise, the rifle is in good condition. All serial numbers are matching. These rifles are not as plentiful as they once were and becoming harder and harder to find. Do not pass up the opportunity to own one of these well-designed rifles.
