Savage Model 1920 Rifle in .250/3000 Savage ** Scarce rifle! **

Description:
Savage built this rifle from 1920 to 1928.  It was their finest rifle of the time, and the first bolt action sporting rifle to be offered to the public.  It was meant to compete with the lever action offerings from  Winchester.  The amount of machining and time for fit and finish to complete the rifle actually cost Savage money, but the firm wanted to be seen as an equal to Winchester, etc.  Fewer than 12,000 were made before being dropped from production due to the Great Depression.   It is a Mauser style action with a lightweight 22" inch barrel in .250/3000 Savage.  The metal parts of the rifle have 85% blue finish, and the bore is very good/excellent.  The stock has been professionally repaired at the wrist from a crack, and was refinished and re-checkered when the repair was completed.  This Savage comes with the original iron sights and has never been drilled and tapped for optics.  Weighing in at 6lbs 4oz, it will make a fine lightweight and easy to handle deer rifle.  We have seen only a few of these rifles over the last few decades and this is the first that has not been drilled and tapped.  An excellent early Savage bolt action.
