1919 Manufactured SAVAGE ARMS Model 1899 .250 Savage Cal. TAKEDOWN Rifle C&R WORLD War I Era Lever Action Hunting Rifle
Description: 1919 Manufactured SAVAGE ARMS Model 1899 .250 Savage Cal. TAKEDOWN Rifle C&R WORLD War I Era Lever Action Hunting Rifle Here we present a Savage Model 1899 Lever Action Takedown Rifle, made in Utica, New York in 1919. The founder of Savage Arms, Arthur W. Savage was a restless and very productive sort who did a little bit of everything during his lifetime. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica to British parents in 1857. He went to school in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States and then in the UK. From there he moved about until he found himself in Australia looking for precious stones, exploring, homesteading and running cattle. He married and started his family (8 children) there before moving to Jamaica to try his hand at agriculture. Some sources say that he grew coffee and some bananas; likely, it was both. His Model 1899 is perhaps his most endearing. The cartridges and detachable rotary magazine he developed are two of his most lasting impacts in the firearms industry today. True to character he sold out of the company in about 1905 and moved to California, where he founded the highly successful Savage Tire Company and continued to dabble in firearms. This rifle is considered by some to be the pinnacle of lever action technology. Its unique magazine enabled the use of spire point ammunition in a lever action rifle since spire points in a tubular magazine like the Winchester or Marlin might set off a primer and cause a catastrophic event for the gun and the user. This is also a favorite cartridge of many a hunter. The .250-3000 Savage (also known as the .250 Savage) is a rifle cartridge created by Charles Newton in 1915. It was designed to be used in the Savage Model 99 hammerless lever action rifle. The name comes from its original manufacturer, Savage Arms, and the fact that the original load achieved a 3,000 ft/s velocity with an 87 grain bullet. The overall condition is good. Strong action. Bright, nicely rifled bore. This example sports a solid stock with an average amount of wear from handling. Sharp markings. No rear sight is present, although the barrel tang it drilled and tapped. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 22 inches. Caliber: .250 Savage (.250-3000) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1600 #226013 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
