This is a little gem of a unique example of the many variations of the terrific Savage 99 rifles of another era. The takedown feature makes these especially interesting as well as usefull, no tools needed and it takes just a moment to take down (ideal for paking in, canoe, camper, tent or other. Separately most of the 22 hi powers we've seen or had were very plain without checkering; this one is not only checkered on the grip and forend but additonally on the cheeks where the sides of the stock meets the receiver This was a special order features. Its a bit difficult to read clearly the date code on the sight boss but it has been estimated to the 1912 amd 1919 based on descriptions found in the Murray book The Ninety - Nine. 
When introduced Savage made extraordiary claims for its effectiveness on game with such descrptions as "Greater velocity,accuracy, penetration and actual killing power than any other rifle made in the United States" At one time it held records for the Running Deer and Running Boar competions. it has been used to take large and dangerous game though it is not recommended for such. A 1912 Catalogue showed a large tiger taken with one shot from a 22 Hi Power.
There has been a small repair where many 99 stocks crack behind the upper tang. This is not very visible as it lays right next to and on lhe left of the Lyman tang sight.
This is a light weigth, compact terrific little rifle, it would be a joy to carry in the woods or just to admire.
