Fantastic condition Model 99EG.
Ser# 4103xx made in 1942.
These post 1940 EGs got better quality walnut, with checkering fore and aft. This is a great example of that change.
Factory wood finish, bluing and case colors are in amazingly nice condition.
Only a few small scattered handling/pressure marks in the wood and only the slightest perceptible high edge wear on the metal.
Front sight has some paint/laquer loss, sides of the dovetail slide. Pretty typical.
Sling swivels appear to be Savage factory installed units, as seen on the slightly earlier "Spiegel Special" rifles as well as the later featherweights.
Three holes drilled/tapped for scope base. Due to overall rifle condition, this was, arguably, performed by the factory.
24" barrel has beautiful, crisp, clean shiny bore and rifling.
Action interior is clean and nice.
Gunsmith dismantled far enough to determine matching #s on wood and metal, and to apply few drops of fresh oil.
This rifle would be hard to improve on, unless it were truly new, unfired, and in its original box.
