RARE Factory Nickel Finish / Pistol Grip Savage Model 24VS in .357 Remington Maximum and 20 Gauge
** One of the Rarest Savage Combo Guns! ** SOLD
Description: This is an exceedingly rare Savage Model 24VS combination gun. This very low production gun was chambered in .357 Remington Maximum over a 20 gauge barrel and featured a satin nickel factory finish. This combination gun used the 24V action with a top tang-mounted barrel release, and the "S" in the model named stood for "Special". The Model 24VS came from the factory with an oil-rubbed rifle-type stock and a factory-supplied pistol grip, both of which were constructed of higher grade wood than the standard models. This all-weather variation could fire .357 Remington Maximum or regular .357 Magnum cartridges in the 20" inch rifle barrel. The .357 Max was a wildcat "super-mag" cartridge introduced in 1983 that would fire at nearly 2,000 feet per second with 1,500 foot pounds of energy. The 20" inch 20 gauge barrel has a 3" inch magnum chamber and was designed to handle everything from bird shot to rifled slugs. Because the .357 Remington Maximum never rerally caught on commercially, the Savage Model 24VS was a very low production model that was discontinued shortly after being introduced. This particular example is in very good condition overall, showing only some small blemishes in the factory finish from poor storage. As you can see from the pictures, these deductions do not take much away from the clean overall look of this rare Savage. Both barrels on this gun have perfect, bright bores with no pitting or visible imperfections whatsoever. It is very apparent that this Savage has been fired very, very little since leaving the factory. It most likely was bought new by the original owner and put into storage until now. Unfortunately the original standard buttstock is no longer with the gun, only the factory pistol grip and forearm remain. Both the forearm and pistol grip are in excellent condition overall, free from any cracks, chip, repairs, or damage. Both pieces are in near-new condition with only a few tiny handling/storage marks visible in the wood. The original black plastic triggerguard is in like-new condition, free from any wear or damage. All of the controls on this Savage are in perfect working order, and the action locks up perfectly tight and "on face". The barrel-selector on the hammer is nice and crisp, and the trigger breaks nicely without any excessive travel. If you have been looking for one of these extremely hard to find Model 24VS combo guns here is your chance to get a very nice all-original and un-molested example.
