Extrememly Rare J P Sauer Pre-War Zi-Di 22 Hornet Mannlicher stocked rifle imported by Von Lengerke &Detmold

Description:
22 Hornet octagon barrel with a full-length integral rib and a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces on this exceptional rifle retain about 98% original blue, the loss due to light fading and contact point wear. The receiver ring is neatly matted as is the full-length of the sculpted barrel rib, a milled section at its center has the VL&D name and New York address, the caliber also is in a separate milled area on the rib and the makers marking are on the two diagonal flats. The bolt body and extractor are French grey showing only light wear to the bolt. The rifle is stocked full-length, Mannlicher-style in a nice grade of English walnut. Rifle features a rounded left side cheekpiece with shadowline, horn fluted pistolgrip cap, and a lovely horn forend tip. There are checkered panels at the grip and a paneled pattern at the forearm, which are masterfully executed and an un-engraved silver monogram plate along the toeline. The stock itself rates very good plus to perhaps near excellent with the minor dings and handling marks one would expect from a carefully hunted arm. Rifle features a single trigger, hinged floorplate and a single-keyed forend with a 14 1/4" length of pull to the smooth case-hardened cross grooved buttplate. The rifle is sighted with a simple bead front atop the rib, the hood is no longer present, there is a three leaf rear sight. A early Weaver 3-9x variable scope is mounted using unmarked high quality bases and rings. The VL&D (Abercrombie and Fitch) records show only one other rifle configured like this (obviously a copy of the larger version in 30-06) and I have one listed presently. Overall a very beautiful rifle, masterfully executed and proofed in 1933.
