Ruger/Lyman 1878 Centennial Rifle, Grade II, .45-70 Gov, Manufactured 1978
Description: This Ruger/Lyman 1878 Centennial Grade II, .45-70 GOV Rifle is number 454 of 1,000 manufactured. It has a 28-inch heavy D-weight blued barrel, a checkered walnut stock and forend, a photo-engraved receiver, a drop-block action, and its original Lyman Century scope (serial number 78-1004). Its overall length is 44 ½ inches; its unloaded weight is 10 pounds, 13 ounces; Its length of pull is approximately 13¾ inches; its drop at the heel is approximately 1½ inches, and its drop at the comb is approximately 1½ inches. Its date of manufacture is 1978. The only accessory is the Lyman Century scope. The owner of this rifle inherited it from a gunsmith friend years ago. The walnut presentation case and other accessories may exist somewhere, but who knows where – bottom line is that there are no other accessories with this rifle The rifle itself is in very excellent condition - 99 percent. The scope has some scratches and couple of rubs at the front and rear where it slid through the scope rings from time to time. I assess the scope at 98 percent. The gunsmith friend had quite a few large caliber rifles, some not fired. I believe this was fired very little, if at all. The finishes on the metal and wood are very excellent. The bluing is like new with no scratches, mars, blemishes, or other signs of wear – 100 percent. The receiver also is in very excellent condition with no scratches, mars, blemishes, or other signs of wear – 100 percent. The walnut stock and forend are in very excellent condition; the checkering on both is deep and crisp. The only blemish is a small compression to the checkering on the left side of the forend, just a little behind and a little below the center of the forend (see photos) – 99 percent. There is one light 1¼-inch scratch on the right side of the stock, just above the sling swivel. On the left side of the stock there is couple small scratches about 1½ inches from the rearend of the checkering and a small ¼-inch about two inches forward of the butt. The rubber recoil pad is in excellent condition. There are no box, papers, or accessories with this rifle, aside from its original Lyman Century scope. The photos are high resolution, so zoom to see details. Contact me for additional photos of any area you would like to see or see better.
