Guns International #: 101417666
Seller's Inventory #: 3369
A very early breech loading patent the used the paper needle fire shells, the breech is opened by lifting the bolt straight up which un-threads a shaft fitted into the barrel, thus holding the barrel tight on face when shut. Quite simple and ingenious.
Anyone up for making needle fire shells and shooting this little rifle from Ireland?
The rifling is quite good.
What a hoot it would be to bring this piece of history back to life. *** Note: To see this gun with high resolution photos and a zoom-in feature, go to the vintagedoubles main site and search for the gun ID: 3369 or browse the main site to see our full gun collection.

John Rigby
of Dublin Ireland ~ A fascinating little needle fire rook rifle ~ extremely rare!
Description: Drillings, Double Rifles, and Rifles - Collectors come out of your stupor and pay attention. We have here an extremely rare single shot rifle with the Rigby/Norman Patent No.899 of 1860. There is one (but not as nice as this one) on page 38 of the Rigby book "Rigby ~ A Grand Tradition" by Helsley, Sanger, and Calabi. I recommend this book if you don\'t have it already. The one pictured in the book and the one we have here are the only ones we have ever seen.
